Via Veneto Sunday

17 Jun

Today we visited the posh and beautiful Via Veneto for Sunday pastry: a chocolate croissant the likes of which I have never had. Creamy dark chocolate encased in flaky goodness. Served with fresh-squeezed orange juice and excellent espresso.

Today we did not breakfast alone. Friends Wally and Nick joined Ric and I for our weekly, leisurely indulgence.

Wally, Laurel, Ric and Nick enjoy La Prima Colazione.

Hi Laurel & Ric! I love the picture! Happy Father’s Day, Ric! Your Sunday pastries have had a good effect on me! I won’t even peak at the Starbuck’s offerings when I pass them for my coffee. And probably I would have trouble drinking their coffee if I had sips of yours.

Amen, Carol! Starbucks coffee not the same, but I think it’s the sense-of-place that makes each food or drink seem special, even coffee. Our coffee bar one morning gave us “American coffee” instead of the “lungo” we requested: not the same, not right for this place. Keep drinking Starbucks, we own stock. 🙂

I wish I remembered to take more food pics! Presentation of even the simplest food is often so lovely. You’d think all we do is eat out, but I do cook sometimes (really!). Nick and Wally are from Portland. Nick and I went to Italian class together for 3 years. They had planned a trip to Italy before we even knew we were moving here, so it was fortuitous to be able to see them here. Ciao!

Could you just send me a bite of your pastry? It looks so good. How about a sip of some of that wine I saw on your kitchen counter in one of your earlier posts. Joyce
